One Week Left!

Writer: Emily FordEmily Ford

I am counting down the days until Zulu and I head out to Alaska for the winter!

The fall here has been very warm and lovely, but I'm ready to be back with my family in the snow.

Anna, Skylar, and Olivia have been working every day to train the teams for the race season. The first race will be the Knik 200 on January 21st, 2025!

Just like any human athlete, it is imperative that the dogs are fit enough to run races. Anna and Olivia made it up to the Denali highway to train last week. We call training like this a "series" in which we replicate a race feeling. The dogs ran 42 miles, rested for several hours; ate a meal, napped, and then ran another 42 for a total of 84 before heading home. On the next series the mileage will be upped, and so will the series after that until we get into racing season where the "series" turns into "racing".

This time of year there isn't enough snow to put a snow hook in the snow to stop and hold a team. Anna and Olivia used the snowmachine to run the team on this training series.

I'm excited to head to Alaska for the winter! Stay tuned for a lot of dog and racing content!
